Foam Sclerotherapy
When performed by a skilled and experienced vein specialist, sclerotherapy renders excellent results making it the gold standard for spider veins.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a tiny vein with a chemical solution (sclerosant).
Asclera® (polidocanol) is a prescription medicine that is used during the procedure to remove uncomplicated spider and reticular veins. The chemical solution destroys the inner cell lining of the vein, causing the vein to collapse and fade.
Sclerotherapy is the procedure of choice for spider veins located on the legs, breast or face. Prominent hand and arm veins can also be eliminated by sclerotherapy.
The sclerotherapy procedure is performed in -office with minimal pain and requires no anesthetic. The needles that are used are very thin, making the injections very tolerable by almost all patients.
The sclerotherapy procedure is usually not covered by insurance unless diagnosed with symptomatic varicose veins. As with any procedure, insurance coverage may vary.
